finally

This is our new car. Our little pulsar was getting squishy with the two kids. Nick put his seat so far back that poor Scarlett would have to put her feet up on the back of his seat! It's so good to have space now! The first thing we did was go for a drive to Wynam (because it was so hot) to have tea and a play at the park.

Mt.Sebastopol

Its probably about time that I (Nick) wrote something on this blog after telling Bianca repeatedly that I would 'someday'. Well today is someday...so no time like the present.

I really wanted to show some pics from when I scaled Mt.Sebastopol at the Mount Cook National Park in December. Bianca was kind enough to let me go and adventure on my own one afternoon and so I leaped at the chance to climb the 'red tarns track which basically went straight up.

Anyway so the track is kinda like one I went on during my mission. This area that you see to your right was once part of my district believe it or not and I visited here three times in total during my mission. It was nice to be back however and this time I decided to do this track. I got a little of the way up when I saw this scrawl on a seat that was obviously designed for people who 'were going to take their time'. Eloquently put I feel. When I saw it I was like 'oh man....I can do this easy'. But it was about step 400 I reckon when I began to feel the pinch in not only my legs, but my burning lungs. Talk about unfit. Whats worse is yesterday I did 4 laps of a 50 meter pool here and almost died. MAN...UNFIT...

So anyway to carry on and not be carried on with my usual riff raff of writing, I got to about 3/4 of the way up and took some photos. Not overly a good day (you can't even see Mt.Cook unfortunately) but still, the view was amazing. And the feeling was invigorating. To be honest, I'm not one of those people who get totally caught up with the way we've constructed nature (oh man, I'm totally too into my degree). But for some reason, the mountain air, the solitude and the 'risks' associated with the climb were giving me a sense of internal satisfaction.

Anyway so, however many steps later, I finally reached the top. And rather than be a total nerd who takes photos then takes off again, I decided to do a little exploration. (did you know that the average time at a landscape site of attraction for a tourist is like 6 minutes or something?).

The view from the top was extraordinary as you can see. But I can't really describe the feeling. Loneliness, excitement, solitude, beauty, clean, clear and above all, something spiritual. Again, I'm totally not one to believe the hype about 'Mountains being spiritual', but in this case there was just something. Man I sound like one of my participants from my honours year. So anyway once I got there I found this majestic little pool of water. It reflected the sky above and they good people at conservation New Zealand had placed a chair there to sit and watch. For what reason I couldn't say other than perhaps to do some meditation. So I tried, not being the overly meditative type, and it was pretty clearing. Anyway, I spent like half an hour up there, walking, thinking and even considering doing some more climbing (but then I realised I didn't want to die). I then realised that I told Bink I would be back by like 4.30pm. If I was late, she might just call the authorities to search for my body...haha. And so that was my lovely little experience. An adventure even if you want to call it that. I guess I do. This guy Georg Simmel once said that an adventure is when you forcibly pull the world into yourself and you break completely from the normal flows of everyday life. I can say that I believe this because of the experience I had on this Mountain. Yeah....first post, and its a serious one. Next time I promise to post a picture of Scarlett diving onto my chest or something like that!!

crawling & cats

Oooops...... I just erased a photo of Ollie's 3rd tooth. His fourth tooth has just cut. Scarlett didn't have teeth until 7 months so we are just amazed that Ollie has blessed us with teething at such an early age! On Tuesday Ollie also started crawling for real. He had the led thing happening but couldn't quite get the movement of the hands until....... Tuesday. Cleaver Boy! Again we had to wait a little longer with Scarlett. I thought boys were supposed to be slower?!

Here is my little cat..... meow! I dressed Scarlett up the other day. She thought the makeup was weird at first but then decided she liked being a cat and we added ears and a tail. What a poser! Normally she won't sit still for a photo!

interesting

Scarlett sat long enough for me to plat her hair! I would love to braid it, but I don't think that will happen for a while!

This one is for you Ess! I was having a chat to Essie today and this is what Scarlett was doing. After a while I realised she wasn't moving and she had her head face down on Flattie. She was going to sleep! The funny things kiddies do!

ELINA'S BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Scarlett's cousin Elina turned two last Wednesday. Elina is one of Scarlett's best buddies. They have a play date every Wednesday at Nannies. Scarlett spent the whole party in Ava's room on the piano! Loved it! We know what to get her for her next birthday!

Number 7 and 6

I've been giving Bianca 10 reasons why I love her today but hiding them in all sorts of electronic spaces...who knows when she'll find these two but here goes...

7 - Because she supports me in my callings, and she works harder than I do in her own.

6 - Because she said yes to my proposal despite my idiotic ways when I dumped her the first time we dated after just 2months....and also despite me being an idiot during the year that we dated...on more than one occasion...and because she forgives...and most importantly, forgets.

morning tea

Thursday we went to Adele's for morning tea with a bunch of other mums. Scarlett had a ball playing with Madson, Maddy, Addie, and Laughy. Ollie got to hang out with Harrison, Hayden and baby Hayden. Can't wait to do it again sometime.

the visit

relaxing in the warm weather

Dinosaurs at the museum

Last week Ga Ga (grandma) and Grandpa came to visit. Scarlett has so much fun with Ga Ga...... going outside constantly.... making crafts....eating lollies.... playing with water.... and the list goes on..... and when it was time to go...."I want to go on the plane with Ga Ga" between the cries. We had some incredibly hot/humid weather that week and we were all dying! I wanted air con so bad! We managed to get through it by sitting outside and playing in water and of course winging. We are getting air con for next summer thank goodness! One day while dad and Pud went to the Andy Warhol exhibition at the art gallery mum and I took Scarlett and Ollie to the museum. We started off ok and then..... tantrums!!!!!!!!(very tired girl getting over a cold) I couldn't wait to leave! I am glad it is only one throwing tantrums and not two.

soccer

Soccer season has almost begun and I have decided to play this year. (I had no choice last year!!!) I am hoping I have not forgotten how to play though! A little more motivation to get into shape too! (for those of you that don't know.... I played soccer in 2006 and was so annoyed to have to miss out last year because I was pregnant!)

We had Gaga and Grandpa visit last week and we miss so much already! Can't wait to come and visit later this year. Just after mum left Ollie begun rolling all over the place. He has been really good at rolling from his tummy to his back but then decided rolling from his back to his tummy would be cool too! He rolled from one side of the room to the other yesterday.... couldn't believe it!! He is getting up on all fours and rocking too...cleaver monkey!! The nurse said the second child often starts doing things a lot more quickly because of the example of the older sibling. I will post some pics soon.....

Chocolate pud

We had a friend come for tea last night and I found this quick recipe for dessert. Here it is:

MICROWAVE CHOCOLATE SELF-SAUCING PUDDING
ingredients:
60g butter
1 1/2 cups self raising flour
1 cup caster sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
3/4 cup milk
2tsp vanilla
1 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
1/3 cocoa, extra
2 cups boiling water

method:
Place butter in dish, melt in microwave on High for 1 minute, stir in sifted flour, sugar and cocoa, milk and vanilla, beat until smooth with wooden spoon. Sprinkle with combined sifted brown sugar and extra cocoa. Pour boiling water over mixture carefully. Cook on High for 12 minutes, or until just cooked in centre; stand 5 minutes before serving with cream or icecream.

Soooooooo Yummy!!!!
